Hemp Seed Oil vs Hemp Oil: What’s the Difference?

Author:

Austin G.

Hemp seed oil and hemp oil may come from the same plant, but they offer vastly different effects for mind and body wellness. Their differences start from where the type of oil is extracted. By its name, we know that hemp seed oil comes from light brown, kernel-sized hemp seeds—the seeds that eventually yield a forest of tall hemp stalks. Hemp oil, on the other hand, comes from hemp’s leaves, flowers, and stalks, encapsulating all the notorious benefits the hemp plant has to offer. Because hemp seed oil doesn’t use these same parts of the hemp plant, it can’t tout the same benefits of hemp oil for sleep, mood, energy, and overall wellness.

In this article, we’ll show you why we use high-quality hemp oil in our collection of hemp gummies, alongside a number of other high-quality, all-natural ingredients. But first, let’s show you the vast differences between these two products that share an awfully similar name.

What Is Hemp Seed Oil?

Like most people, you probably just learned that hemp seed oil and hemp oil are two different products. Through various marketing tactics, companies that use hemp seed oil have tried associating their brand with hemp’s multiple wellness benefits. Well, let’s dispel that confusion.

Hemp seed oil is made from cold-pressing hemp seeds, squeezing those little kernels flat, and producing an ooey resin. To the naked eye, this resin looks awfully similar to the one made by the tall, green hemp plant. But it’s vastly different. It doesn’t hold the plant’s rich terpene or flavonoid complexes or offer hemp’s natural wellness-boosting properties.

Though, hemp seed oil does naturally carry healthy omega fatty acids that companies utilize in a number of skincare products. Also, with its nutty flavor, hemp seed oil can make an excellent substitute for olive oil or traditional salad dressings. So, hemp seed oil isn’t all bad! It just can’t compete with high-quality hemp extract.

What Is Hemp Oil?

Now, onto the main affair. Hemp oil is produced after the hemp plant has reached full maturation. This fully grown plant is rife with aromatic flowers, weighty leaves, and stalks that wave in the breeze, reaching for the sky. Hemp plants can grow from three to seven feet tall. We make hemp oil by gathering the plant’s flowers, leaves, and stalks and passing them through a series of filtration processes.

While other hemp brands rely on messy, potentially toxic solvents to strip the hemp’s compounds away from the plant matter, we use CO2. This is a more effective way of isolating the plant’s wellness compounds without leaving behind unwanted solvents in the finished product.

Once we have the hemp oil in hand, we accompany it with additional all-natural ingredients to formulate our wide collection of hemp gummies, imbuing them with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and tasty fruit flavors. Sure, hemp oil is an astounding wellness product, but it does carry an earthy flavor. Our natural flavorings help mask that taste, while brightening your day with a little dash of naturally sweet agave.

How Much Does Hemp Profile Matter?

The hemp plant is rich in compounds that give it flavor, smells, and wellness-boosting benefits. When we extract hemp oil, our goal is to keep all these compounds intact or mostly intact. For instance, our Mixed Berry Full Spectrum Hemp Gummies contain the plant’s entire complex of terpenes, flavonoids, and wellness-boosting compounds, keeping in line with federal regulations. When these compounds are left intact, you have a high likelihood of experiencing “the Entourage Effect.” This phenomenon is when multiple hemp-based compounds interact with your body’s system simultaneously, creating a stronger, more noticeable cascade of wellness-based benefits.**

On the other hand, our Mixed Berry Hemp Gummies use a broad spectrum hemp extract that carries a slightly incomplete compound profile. While broad spectrum extract can certainly conjure up the Entourage Effect, it won’t be as strong (or as noticeable) as the one from full spectrum extract—a trait many seem to say is a pro while others argue is a con. It really comes down to which experience you’d like to curate.

Finding the Best Hemp Oil Products

When you’re hunting for hemp oil products, after you’ve dodged the false flag that is hemp seed oil, you need to look for a certain quality of products—products that rely on high-quality extract, all-natural ingredients, and third-party lab tests. Not sure what any of that means? You’re in the right place.

Quality of Extract

Though tall and regal, hemp also serves a distinct purpose. Hemp is a bioaccumulator. This means that wherever you plant hemp, it’ll soak all the surrounding minerals out from the soil, whether that be toxins, heavy metals, or pesticides. That’s why it’s crucial to grow hemp on non-GMO, pesticide-free farms (like the one we use).

Also, the quality of a hemp extract relies on its extraction method. If heavy solvents are used to strip the oil away from the plant matter, there’s a chance they can leak into the finished product. We steer clear of this pitfall by using CO2 to extract our hemp oil. This method doesn’t leave behind pesky solvents—just high-quality, top-shelf hemp extract.

All-Natural Ingredients

Now, what good does high-quality hemp extract do if it’s paired with low-level, bottom-of-the-barrel ingredients? To make pristine, wellness-boosting gummies, we solely use vegan, all-natural ingredients in a wide range of formulas for daily wellness, immune support, improved sleep, and increased focus and energy.** When you’re looking for the right gummies, make sure to go with ones crafted with top-shelf vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Third-Party Lab Tests

And the last criteria to search for is probably the most important: third-party lab tests. These tests chronicle the plant’s harvest, extraction, and manufacturing stages. They show what’s inside the finished product, blemishes and all. If a brand used shoddy growing methods, those errors would pop up here. If they used gold-standard manufacturing practices, those high marks would be on display for all to see. Third-party lab tests are the industry standard for any hemp-based brand.
